This month we are featuring our youngsters who participated in the Summer Sailing Summer Camp at the Sailing Center. Both of our Scholarship winners, Sofia Wesley and David Brizzi had a great time. David is a wonderful sailor and, in fact, won the prestigious 'Golden Sailor' Award for seamanship, attitude and work ethic. Congratulation, David!
Bob and Joy Lemm's granddaughter, Sofia Wesley and her friend, Mia Monsalve, enjoyed the classes as did all of the boys. Paul and Mary Warren had three grandsons on the water, Kyle Dupuis, Ethan and Morgan McKinsey. Roger and Jeanette Erb had two, Roman and Jaden Arnold. These youngsters also participated in the Green Fleet Practices which were held Tuesday evenings and provided an opportunity for these new Opti sailors to learn advanced boat handling and racing.
There was a full house at our first annual Splash-n- Bash. We are grateful to our Commodore Tito Vargas, Rear Commodore Sandy Schoenberg and General Manager Robert Lovejoy, who were so willing to dunk for the cause! Diana Sowers and Carol Hansen demonstrated very strong arms! Kudos to Connie DuBois, Mickie McMeniman and Betty Sanders, who tirelessly worked the crowd. The total raised, along with donations from Joy Lemm and Carol Jurca, will allow us to provide two scholarships next summer. Everyone enjoyed the festivities that evening - a Luau and a great dance band.
Although it was too hot to sail, Salty Sisters and several Broad Reachers met for lunch on Wednesday, August 3, at PAG as the downtown Club was closed. The entire group totaled sixty.
On Saturday, September 10th, we will hold our General Meeting and Installation of Officers. Our first regular sailing day is Saturday, September 17. Rigging starts promptly at 9 AM. Please join us on the water (no experience required), in the safety boat, or on the dock with the Race Committee (again, no experience required). Call Vanessa (727.360.646) for a reservation and join us for lunch. All need to do that! If you have not yet joined, our dues are a mere $25 annually.
The Florida Women's Sailing Association will hold their General Meeting, hosted by the Bow Chasers on Tuesday, September 20th. This will be held at the Clearwater Yacht Club, and registration will commence at 9 AM. Please plan on attending. Reservations in advance, are required.
